Follow Up On Electric Bill

On Saturday, I wrote a blog post about my recent electric bill. The bill was higher than expected, and quite frankly I don’t know why. I called up my local electric company to question them about the bill, and unfortunately I didn’t get to far with them. Finally I got so fed up that I admitted defeat and paid the high bill.

I did however want to bring up a good website that I used before (and for this case) prior to calling my electric company. The website which is called MichaelBluejay.com features a hefty amount of information on electricity. Topics range from electricity myths to more advanced topics such as How Much Electricity Does My Stuff Use. I found the latter useful in calculating the amount with which my refrigerator used for the month of July (since this was the only item being used). After using the helpful calculator there, I concluded that my estimate of no more than $10 dollars a month (for just the refrigerator) was right on target. Not the $90 dollars that the electric company billed me for.

In my defense I tried to explain to the electric company these things on the phone, however they didn’t understand. They kept telling me that one of my roommates was living there, or that my landlord was inside my apartment. They also thought that a light was left on for the whole month. I know for a fact that both are wrong. Neither of my roommates moved in till the end of August, and doing the math even if a light bulb was left on (which it wasn’t) it would not even come close to the total amount of electricity used that was found on my bill.

I guess the only thing I can do now is take this one as a loss and move forward. It’s just one of those things in life that happens. Afterall it is only money, and luckily nothing serious was involved.
